„The city that never sleeps“. Everyone who has ever been to NYC would agree to the cities nickname unconditionally. New York City located at the Hudson River has five boroughs. Wall Street and the most popular attractions of the city, like Empire State Building or Central Park and so much more, are located at the heart of the city – Manhattan.
„Die Stadt, die niemals schläft“. Jeder der schon mal da war, wird dem Spitznamen der Stadt bedingungslos zustimmen. New York City liegt am Hudson River und besteht aus fünf sogenannten Boroughs (Bezirken). Die Wall Street und andere berühmte Sehenswürdigkeiten, wie etwa das Empire State Building oder die Lunge der Stadt, der Central Park und und und, liegen im Herzen der Stadt, in Manhattan.

How to get to New York City – NYC
Depending on the choosen airline you will arrive at the west of NYC at Newark (New Jersey), La Guardia (north) or John F. Kennedy airport (south). All airports are about a hour away from Central station. The connections to Manhattan are really good. You can reach the city by train, express train or shuttle busses easily. There is no need to take an expensive cab (except it’s about the experience) to get stucked into traffic jam. When you arrive at the city, you should by a Metro Card. The costs from about 31 $ per person for seven days are a good invest, because you can use busses (great possibility to jump off) also, the Roosevelt Island Tramway to get a great view over the skyline for free and the Staten Island Ferry (passes the Statue of Liberty) also.
Abhängig von der gewählten Fluglinie wirst du entweder im Westen von NYC in Newark (liegt in New Jersey), La Guardia (im Norden) oder John F. Kennedy Flughafen (Süden) landen. Alle Flughäfen liegen etwa eine Stunde vom Hauptbahnhof, dem Central Station, entfernt. Die Anbindung nach Manhattan ist aber wirklich gut. Das Zentrum kann problemlos mit dem Zug, Schnellzug oder Shuttlebussen, erreicht werden.
Die Notwendigkeit ein teures Taxi (außer es geht dir um das Erlebnis an sich) zu nehmen, um damit ihm Stau zu stehen, besteht also nicht. Wenn du in der Stadt ankommst, solltest du die etwa $ 31 pro Person für die Metro Card investieren, mit der du nicht nur sieben Tage unbegrenzt hin und her fahren kannst, sondern auch kostenlos alle Busse (super, um überall auszusteigen, wo es einem gefällt), die Roosevelt Island Seilbahn (toller Blick über die Skyline) und die Staten Island Fähre (fährt an der Freiheitsstatue vorbei) nutzen kannst.

Whenever we went to NYC we never missed a day not going there during our stay. You can find so many idyllic places there. Try to find a peaceful place for a picnic and take a sunbath as the turtles do.
Während unserer Aufenthalte in NYC haben wir nie einen Tag ausgelassen, an dem wir nicht im Central Park waren. Es ist fast unmöglich kein idyllisches Plätzchen für ein Picknick zu finden oder du sonnst dich einfach wie die Schildkröten dort.
Brooklyn Bridge – New York City
The Brooklyn Bridge was built by the german-american Chief-Engineer John August Roebling. It’s one of the oldest and most popular bridges of the USA. At the opening in 1883 the Brooklyn Bridge was crossed by 1,800 cars and 150,300 people.
Die Brooklyn Bridge wurde auf Vorschlag und unter Aufsicht des deutsch-amerikanischen Ingenieurs John August Roebling erbaut und ist eine der ältesten und beliebtesten Hängebrücken der USA. Bei ihrer Eröffnung im Jahre 1883 wurde sie bereits von 1.800 Autos und 150.300 Menschen überquert.
Dumbo – Manhattan Bridge and Skyline
Dumbo has become very popular the last years. There are a lot of restaurants and it offers a great view to the Manhattan Bridge (on clear days you might see Crysler Building), but you can also walk around to get another view to the Brooklyn Bridge with the carousel in front of it or the Skyline of Manhattan.
Dumbo ist die letzten Jahre sehr beliebt geworden. Es gibt nicht nur etliche Restaurants dort, sondern auch einen herrlichen Blick auf die Manhattan Bridge (manchmal ist die Sicht sogar bis zum Crysler Building möglich). Ansonsten lädt der gemütliche Stadtteil zum Bummeln ein und offenbart einen anderen Blick auf die Brooklyn Bridge mit dem Karussell davor. Wer noch weiter spaziert, kann sich auch die Skyline von Manhattan anschauen.

Liberty Island – Statue of Liberty
Liberty Island with the Statue of Liberty is another very popular spot, visited by many tourists. If you don’t really want to step on the island, take the Staten Island Ferry from Lower Manhattan („Whitehall Street“ at Battery Park) to Staten Island („Saint George Ferry Terminal“). The Ferry offers a great view to the Statue of Liberty and Skyline of Manhattan. The Ferry is free of charge for Metro Card owners.

Die Anlagestellen sind „Whitehall Street“ am Battery Park in Lower Manhattan und das Saint George Ferry Terminal auf Staten Island.

If you are a Metro Card owner you can take the Roosevelt Island Tramway from 59th Street and Second Avenue in Manhattan to Tramway Plaza on Roosevelt Island to get another beautiful view to the skyline, out of charge.
Wer eine Metro Card gekauft hat, kann außerdem kostenlos mit der Seilbahn von der 59th Street und Second Avenue in Manhattan zum Tramway Plaza auf Roosevelt Island fahren, um eine weitere schöne Aussicht auf die Skyline zu sehen.
MoMa and other Museums free of charge
MoMa Museum of Modern Arts can be visited Fridays from 4pm to 8pm. Brooklyn Museum at the first Saturday of the Month, Botanical Garden on Wednesday or Saturdays from 9am to 10am, Bronx Zoo on Wednesday. New York Aquarium Fridays from 3pm to 3:30pm (or 4pm to 5pm at summer). Guggenheim Museum or the National Museum of American Indian for example can be visited every day.

Viele Museen können an bestimmten Tagen oder Uhrzeiten kostenlos oder gegen ein freiwilliges Trinkgeld besucht werden. Das MoMa Museum of Modern Arts kannst du Freitags von 16 – 20 Uhr kostenlos besuchen, das Brooklyn Museum am ersten Samstag des Monats, den Botanischen Garten am Mittwoch und Samstags von 9 – 10 Uhr, den Bronx Zoo immer Mittwochs. Das New York Aquarium ist Freitags von 15 – 15:30 Uhr (im Sommer von 16 -17 Uhr) kostenlos. Dass Guggenheim Museum oder das National Museum of American Indian können täglich besucht werden.
