Faroe Islands

Faroe are 18 small Islands, partially connected by bridges, situated at the atlantic ocean. Every Island is unique and you can find peaceful places to hike along the coastline or (small) mountains. The climate, depending on gulf stream, is changeable (temperature from about 2 degrees at winter to 15 degrees at summer), make sure to take the right clothes for rainy, windy and sunny weather with you. Visiting Mykines and the Puffins living there for breeding season, was our highlight. Try to find time not to miss it.

Best time to go to Faroe Islands

Depending on the climate Faroe Islands are a destination, which can be visited the hole year but we prefer to go there from spring to autumn / fall.

How to get to Faroe Islands

The Faroe Islands do have their own airline called Atlantic Airways but you can also use Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) to fly to Vágar airport, located at the southwest. Just take a rental car and go.

Dranganir

Two sea stacks between the Island Tindhólmur and Vágar are named Dranganir. It takes a hike of about two hours to get there and is only permitted with tour guides because you have to cross private farmers land. The hikes are chargeable and only take on cetrain days.

Not easy to get there, but worth the hike

Mykines Lighthouse & Puffins

One of the most impressive places we have ever been to. Mykines is a bird paradise, not only the famous Puffins are there at breeding season. You need to take a ferry to get there. As there are only a limited number of places on the small ship, you should book a ticket in advance. In addition, an environmental tax must be paid to visit the island. You can pay in advance or with your creditcard at the hotspot at the island next tot he employee, who will ask about the confirmation of the transfer.

Mykines Leuchtturm & Papageientaucher

Stunning view to Mykines lighthouse

Gjógv

A cute litte village with incredible views to the Northern Isles and a viking boat which needs to be visited. If you missed going to Iceland, Norway or Mykines, you might have the chance to see Puffins along the cliffs.

One of the most popular waterfalls of the Faroe Islands, located at the coastline.

Faroe Islands – Troll’s Finger

Faroe Islands – Saksun

Another very popular village located at a stunning valley with a museum located at a farmhouse from the 17th century.

Kallur Lighthouse at Kalsoy

To get there you need to take the ferry from Klaksvik. You should be there in time to join the line, since it’s not a big ferry (about 20 cars allowed). You will remember the parking instructions by the friendly crew for sure. It was so much fun.
