Canada

Banff – Jasper – Yoho Nationalpark – Rocky Mountains – A roadtrip to Canada means adventure, freedom, Puffins, wildlife, mindblowing landscape and will definitely leave you speechless. It’s not unlikely to see bears. We saw them multiple times but coudn’t grab our camera fast enough to take a picture.

Best time to go

Canada is always worth going to, every season of the year. We went there in August, which probably might have the best weather conditions, so many tourist are going to choose it. The Nationalparks are crowded but huge, so you can still find peaceful places. You need to pay entrance fees for all Parks. It makes sense to buy a Discovery Pass Parks Canada. There are special lanes for pass holders to pass through, so there is no need for long stop.

How to get there

We took a rental car from Calgary international airport and headed north to start at Jasper Nationalpark.

Maligne Lake with Spirit Island – Jasper Nationalpark

You have to rent a boat or Canoe, if you want to see Spirit Island and it still will take hours to get there. The legend says that Spirit Island got it’s name because it was the secret meeting point of to lovers from diffrent indian clans. As the girls father got out about their relationship, she was not allowed to go there anymore. Her lover returned his hole life to Spirit Island until he died there. The indians say that his spirit is still there.

Athabasca Falls – Jasper Nationalpark

The Athabasca Falls are also known for it’s Canyon, where you can go on a boat trip or canoeing.

Sunwapta Falls – Jasper Nationalpark

A small Island surrounded by water, makes that place unique and absolutely worth going to. They got their name because the indians call it wild water.

Tangle Creek Falls

The falls are located at the Icefields Parkway and just a few minutes to hike up.

Saskatchewan Glacier

Stepping on a Glacier has been on my bucket list for so long and I will never forget it.

Saskatchewan Gletscher

When dreams come true

Peyto Lake – Banff Nationalpark

The best view is just a few minutes away from the parking slot. You just need to follow the crowd to the beautiful turquoise lake.

Emerald Lake – Yoho Nationalpark

As all canadian lakes, Emerald Lake has it’s own flair. If you are looking for a peaceful sunrise spot, it’s the perfect place to be.

Lake Louise – Banff Nationalpark

Lake Louise sometimes looks like milky water. It is surrounded by nature and a hot spot at Banff Nationalpark. To avoid the crowds and find unique places, just take a walk along the shore.

Another impressive view

Moraine Lake  – Banff Nationalpark

We didn’t expect to go to a lake more crowded than Lake Loiuse, but it exists. We got there before sunrise and got one of the last parking slots there. Never seen so many people at 5am anythere. At about 7 am the road to Moraine Lake is closed. The only chance to get there is to take a public park bus but we saw signs including a waiting period of 120 minutes. Nevertheless you should go. The Lake itself has an unique tourquise color, depending on the Glacier water floating in and the seasons. Don’t forget to take a walk around to see more.

Johnston Canyon – Banff Nationalpark

You should go to Johnston Canyon with Johnston Creek if you love hiking. The way is asphalted and makes it easy to get to the Lower Falls with it’s about 10 meters high waterfall, which are about an 30 minutes walk away through the Canyon. If you want to see the 30 meter hight waterfall, you have to continue about 45 minutes to get to the Upper Falls. If this is not enough for you, you can go further to see the Ink Pots. It will take about an hour hike straight up to get there.

Lake Minnewanka – Banff Nationalpark

A beautiful Lake surrounded by beautiful landscape. We had picknick at this peaceful place.

Grassi Lakes – Banff Nationalpark

It takes about an hour hike up to the lakes but the view is mindblowing.
